David Hillman
David Hillman is a graphic designer and former partner at Pentagram during the firm’s formative years. Named D&AD’s most awarded designer in 2012 and recipient of the D&AD President’s Award, his career spans five decades working with leading cultural institutions, publishers and brands.
As art director of The Guardian, David helped define the newspaper’s modern visual language, establishing a typographic approach that influenced an entire generation of editorial design. His work is characterised by bold, systematic thinking – creating flexible visual identities rather than rigid logos, building frameworks that evolve rather than designs that date.
Projects include Arts Council England, Phaidon Books, Tate Gallery, Skandia, and Interior Design International, demonstrating expertise across publishing, cultural identity, and complex brand architecture challenges.
David brings strategic wisdom and design excellence to Hope’s work, particularly for organisations navigating identity evolution whilst respecting established equity.
