In the week after the attempted assassination of former President Trump, it is timely to take a look at the gun control battle which has taken place in the US for decades. (Trump, of course, has been a strong supporter of the pro-gun lobby.) It is also a sober reminder that for all the campaigning, including the creative brilliance shown below, gun control has failed to gain any ground against the lobbying might of the National Rifle Association (NRA).
Newtown Action Alliance: #NotComingHome
A smart idea, very well done, presents the shocking gun death statistics in an entirely novel way.
Sandy Hook Promise: Tomorrow’s News
Sandy Hook was the scene of a mass school shooting in 2012. The Sandy Hook Promise is a campaigning organisation that came out of that. This brilliant idea was horribly prescient, so proving, in the worst way, the entire premise of the film: 2 months after this was first shown, 17 people were murdered in the Parkland school shooting.
March for our Lives: Generation Lockdown
For those of us who don’t live in the United States, this seems utterly unbelievable, and yet appallingly believable.
Everytown for Gun Safety: Not Allowed
This is a specific campaign directed at a supermarket chain, and is phenomenally well done. It will also have non-US viewers shaking their heads with disbelief.
AdCouncil and Brady United: Prepare for Misuse
A neat twist to powerfully bring home their message to gun owners.
