The Royal Institution (Ri) stands as one of Britain’s most venerable yet dynamic scientific institutions, balancing a rich 225-year heritage with urgent contemporary relevance. As creative partners to this remarkable organisation, we have embraced the opportunity to communicate their distinctive blend of historical significance and forward-thinking vision.
Our journey began with crafting their latest Impact Report, “It starts with a spark,” which showcases the Ri’s extraordinary reach and influence throughout 2023-24. We designed the report to emphasise both impressive statistics—such as the 46 million YouTube views across 205 countries and the 32,307 attendees at live events—while also capturing the emotional impact through compelling testimonials from teachers, students, and scientists whose careers were launched through Ri programmes.
The visual narrative we developed reflects the Ri’s commitment to making science accessible and exciting. Images of wide-eyed children witnessing spectacular demonstrations sit alongside the historic theatre where groundbreaking discoveries have been shared for centuries.
Building on this foundation, we developed the brand strategy, marketing materials, and campaign architecture for the Ri’s ambitious £20 million Be the Spark appeal. This transformative fundraising initiative will enable the Ri to expand its educational outreach, enhance its iconic Grade 1 listed building’s sustainability, digitise more of its historic collections for global access, and ensure that the CHRISTMAS LECTURES® can inspire future generations of scientists for another 200 years.
